Alcohol
Drug Detox Centers
Explains the
differences between all types of alcohol and drug detox centers
and the detox protocol they might use.
Alcohol
and Drug Detox
Before
a person can begin to participate in an alcohol
and drug treatment program, reside in an alcohol
and drug free sober living home, or even participate in an
out-patient
program for alcohol or drug addiction he or she must detox
from the substance(s) that they've become dependent on. Drug or
alcohol detox begins when a person stops consuming a substance
that the body has become dependent on. Though the recovery process
from alcohol or drug addiction doesn't really begin until the
detox or withdrawal period has ended, entering a drug
and alcohol detox center is the first step to recovery and
should only be attempted in the safe and comfortable environment
of a licensed detox center.
Alcohol and Drug Withdrawal Symptoms
Detox
from alcohol or drug addiction can produce withdrawal symptoms
that range from mild to severe. Some acute drug and alcohol
withdrawal symptoms can even be fatal if not treated medically.
Some of these withdrawal symptoms are the sweats, shakes, headaches,
cravings, depression, insomnia, loss of appetite, vomiting, cramping,
diarrhea, seizures and convulsions. Often, without medical help,
the more severe
withdrawal symptoms can become so unbearable that the person
experiencing them will return to the substance that he or she
is detoxing from rather than complete the detox.
Different Types Of Detox Centers
This
website will explain the difference between non-medical and medically-supervised
alcohol and drug detox centers along with the detox protocol each
might use. If you or someone you know has an alcohol and/or drug
addiction and considering detox, please seek out advice and help
from a physician or licensed detox center.
